The Greater Geist Community

What happened? This was a great little cafe at 116th and Brooks School Road (where the Gelato DaVinci was) and it is no longer there? A lot of local restaurants are hurting, I'm hearing it from all of them. I know the economy will make people think twice about dropping $75 for dinner during the week, but does anyone have any ideas of how to help save some of these eateries? Maybe a "restaurant tour"? What if I negotiated a Geist discount for a month? Any ideas?

Like you I am really saddened by the closing of Essence Cafe. I frenquented there at least 3 times a week they had great food and smoothies. I did speak with the owner and due to the ecomony they had to close there doors. She did mention if anyone was interested in purchasing the restaurant to please contact her. I have all the contact information for the owner and employee's as well if interested.

A little update, we come up with a "Geist Restaurant Tour" which will include up to 8 area restaurants which will take place from Thanksgiving through Valentine's Day. We'll announce the participating restaurants within a week or so, but it will be a great way for residents to sample the best dinner restaurants around Geist and receive a valuable prize package if they do. More to come, but I just wanted to give you all an update!

Wow, I guess I need to read the articles on AtGeist.net more often. I went to have lunch at Cafe Essence just yesterday. I was bummed to see one of my favorite lunch spots closed. The Geist Restaurant Tour sounds like a fabulous idea! Looking forward to see your ideas in action!

I've talked to three restaurants and ran the "Geist Restaurant Tour" past them. They all loved the idea. I'm putting together the program today and I'll post here on atGeist.net to get your input. I think this will work!

A restaurant tour would be good. If the restaurants in the tour would offer a select menu for a pretty decent discount. Or if they tried to do some direct mailings to local residents. I recently got a 20 dollar gift card in the mail from Kincaid's located in Clay Terrace. Another problem these restaurants are facing is that they don't have enough capital and are relying on some kind of huge surge of business. These small businesses also don't know how to plan their finances and use money in one area that they could benefit more in another area.
