Geist Half Marathon & 5K Course Map Sponsorships Available

We are producing an 11" x 17" (folded to 5-1/2" x 8-1/2") full color course map this year for the 2nd annual St. Vincent Geist Half Marathon & 5K Presented by Comcast. Pat Hankley, an illustrator from Fishers, will be creating this one-of-a-kind drawing of the course complete with sponsors inside and outside the map. We will be printing 10,000 copies with our printing sponsor Allegra Printing and handing them out to each participant (6,500) and spectator. Cost is $400 for an ad on the outside of the map (hand drawn by the way) and $500 to be included inside the course map. atGeist.net members and atGeist.com advertisers get first shot at these spots, so commit now if you want to be included in this collectors' item. Note, each waterstop sponsor, Captain's Sponsor, and Title Sponsor will already be included in the map.

The Geist Half Marathon, Inc. board voted this morning to extend the application deadline for their Health & Wellness Grant Program to February 15, 2010. School faculty and parent volunteers in Marion, Hancock, and Hamilton counties are encouraged to download the instructions and application online at www.GeistHalf.com.

“Our goal is to support and inspire healthy initiatives within schools that otherwise might not happen due to lack of funding,” said Doreen Long, Geist Half Marathon volunteer board member and chairperson of the grant request committee.

Applicants must submit a one-page form outlining their proposed health and wellness program for the second half of the 2010 school year. Programs with the broadest impact and a budget less than $2,000 will be given priority.

Tom Britt, President of the Geist Half Marathon Inc., says the new Health & Wellness Grant Program will help further the mission of the group. “If parents and faculty want to start or expand a fitness program within their school, we don’t want money to stand in their way.”

This announcement comes just after the Geist Half Marathon announced that $34,000 has been donated to Geist-area schools, including Hamilton Southeastern, Lawrence Township, Mt. Vernon, and St. Simon the Apostle.

Tom, I'll probably just rollerblade to the finish line, cut tags off shoes, and do cleanup like last year. It's a dirty job but somebody's got to do it :-) Twist the thumb screws if you need more out of me this year.

Water stop sponsorship anyone? We sold out of our water stop sponsorships last year and we anticipate another sell-out this year. What does it entail? Well, you and your friends/co-workers staff a water stop along the Geist Half Marathon route for the morning of the race. We provide the tables, cups, water, hoses, and in some cases gatorade mix. You provide the enthusiasm and labor! Last year, we had a few companies decorate their stop and playing themed music to keep the runners entertained as well as motivated. Cost is $1,000 and it includes some visibility on the GeistHalf.com website. If you are interested, contact me!

My son, along with Oaklandon Elementary, ran in the 5K last year. First time for him to run. They trained, and ran. I was so proud of him. Hopefully they will get to run again this year. They will be doing the 'Jinggle Run' downtown. That ought to interesting...in the cold. Kudos to them!

I'm actually starting to run again, believe it or not. I haven't been able to run for 10 years due to a bone spur on my left foot. I went to a doc and got some orthodics for my shoes, voila! no more pain!
