National Night Out

The "26th Annual National Night Out" (NNO), a unique crime/drug prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW), is on Tuesday, August 4, 2009.

Last year's National Night Out campaign involved citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from over 11,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide.

In all, over 34 million people participated in NNO 2008. Let's add to that number by having a great turnout here in Geist.

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT is designed to:

* Promote community awareness and active involvement in creating safer neighborhoods;

* Generate support for and participation in local programs to prevent crime, drug abuse and violence;

* Strengthen neighborhood spirit and build on our police-community partnerships;

* Sends a message to criminals letting them know that our neighborhood is organized and fighting back!
